PA Triage EDitor

Human-Led Integrity, Powered by Choice.

Not every manuscript that passes the initial submission checks is ready for an academic editor or reviewer.

Some sit outside the journal’s scope. Others are incomplete or raise questions about ethics or research integrity that need closer attention. When those issues are found late, editors spend time assessing manuscripts that were not ready to progress, and reviewers receive papers that should have been returned or examined further before review.

PA Triage EDitor adds a structured, human-led assessment between the initial submission checks and formal peer review. We examine manuscripts against the journal’s agreed criteria and explain what we find, giving editors the information they need to decide what happens next.

What PA Triage EDitor can do

Scope and Journal Fit

We assess each submission against the journal’s scope and remit, identifying out-of-scope manuscripts before they progress to further editorial assessment or peer review. This helps protect editor and reviewer time by ensuring only appropriate submissions move forward.

Ethics and Research Integrity

Ethics and research-integrity concerns are not always obvious when a manuscript arrives. If they are missed, a paper may enter peer review without the journal fully understanding the risk. PA Triage EDitor brings potential concerns to the editor’s attention at the triage stage, with enough context for the journal to decide what needs to happen next.

Quality and Completeness

Some manuscripts are in scope but still not ready for review. Missing information or incomplete reporting may leave an editor or reviewer without enough to assess the work properly. PA Triage EDitor specialists identify those problems ahead of the manuscript moving forward, giving the journal the opportunity to seek clarification or decide that a fuller review is not warranted.

Technology, If You Choose

Technology can strengthen the triage process by identifying potential concerns, but it doesn’t replace expert human judgement. If your journal uses a research-integrity tool, our specialists assess its output in the context of the manuscript and explain which alerts warrant further investigation. The service can also be delivered as a fully human assessment, without AI.

The Right Expertise for Each Journal

Assessments are handled by trained triage specialists with experience in ethics and research integrity. Where disciplinary knowledge is required, we draw on a flexible network of subject specialists, from degree- to PhD-level expertise, matched to the journal’s discipline and the level of expertise required.

Why PA EDitorial?

PA EDitorial has worked in peer review and editorial-office management since 2011. We know what happens when an out-of-scope or potentially high-risk manuscript moves too far: editor time is lost and reviewers are asked to assess work that was not ready to reach them.

Good triage is not simply a matter of running a check; it means understanding the journal well enough to recognise what needs closer attention and explain why. Because we also handle peer review day to day, we know the assessment has to work in practice.

PA Triage EDitor puts that judgement where it can make a real difference: before peer review begins.
